In Hanoi, senior officials from Vietnam and Japan have committed to enhancing collaboration between their governing parties and legislative bodies. During discussions, Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a high-ranking official from Vietnam’s Communist Party, and Hagiuda Koichi, the Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), underscored the importance of strengthening ties. This dialogue follows the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to Vietnam earlier this year, which has seen a burgeoning growth in the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Both nations expressed their eagerness to intensify political dialogue and boost parliamentary exchanges. Nguyễn Duy Ngọc emphasized Vietnam’s robust economic achievements and ongoing efforts towards administrative reforms. He proposed that Japan could contribute by sharing its insights into local governance and decentralization, which would be instrumental in advancing Vietnam’s institutional development.
The Vietnamese official also advocated for greater cooperation in several key areas, including human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology. He highlighted the need for enhanced collaboration between the two countries’ parliamentary friendship groups and encouraged more exchanges involving young lawmakers.
Furthermore, Vietnam has sought continued support for its community residing in Japan, suggesting the simplification of visa procedures as a step towards ultimately achieving visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens. This request aligns with the broader goal of facilitating easier travel and fostering deeper bilateral ties.
In response, Hagiuda Koichi echoed support for expanding bilateral cooperation. He assured that Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and parliament would remain committed to fostering exchanges and joint initiatives, particularly in the fields of advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy, thus reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
