The film was a critical and commercial success, securing 10 Academy Award nominations and winning acting Oscars for both Henry Fonda and Hepburn, though Rydell lost the Best Director Oscar to Warren Beatty for Reds.
On Golden Pond not only became a box-office sensation, grossing over $119 million globally, but it also marked the final screen appearance of Henry Fonda, who won his only Academy Award for this role.
